The 19 year old Lingfield Road resident has just completed her first year at University of Kent reading Architecture. Currently raising funds for a sponsored climb of Mount Kilimanjaro in aid of the Meningitis Research Foundation, Emily asked Edenbridge Rotary Club for financial support.
Prior to going to university, Emily attended Lingfield Notre Dame and then Weald of Kent Grammar School. Speaking at last week’s Rotary meeting she said “I was presented with this opportunity soon after arriving at the University of Kent, which I think will be a great personal test of endurance and team work. I decided to choose to support Meningitis Research Foundation because, as well as being a devastating disease that affects millions each year, many of whom are my age. It has been a great opportunity to raise awareness on the student campus. I have been raising money from street collections, various events at University, waitressing, babysitting, car boot sales and I am very appreciative of the donation from Edenbridge Rotary Club.”
Rotary Club President Mick Peterson thanked Emily for her talk, and invited her to come back to the Club and tell Edenbridge Rotarians all about her proposed 6 day trek later in the year. More details are available at Emily’s “Justgiving” page: http://www.justgiving.com/Emily-Harris2
